Game cover Starbound

A game does not always need realistic and state-of-the-art 3D graphics to draw players in. Yes, it definitely helps when players can drool over the sceneries. After all, people are quick to judge based on the first thing that their eyes register. But a simple, yet addicting, gameplay is also enough to keep players hooked on a game for months. Such is the case with Starbound, an upcoming adventure game that is currently an Early Access title on Steam for the Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux platforms. The graphics of Starbound is made up of colorful and highly-detailed 2D pixels that players might quickly assume it’s a game from the 80’s upon a single glance. Starbound will be released sometime in 2016, with additional ports for the Microsoft Xbox One, Sony PlayStation 4, and Sony PlayStation Vita.

The game may lack on the graphics department, depending on the player’s preferences, but it does make up for it in a big way with its addicting gameplay and almost endless replay value (thanks to it being a sandbox game). The story of Starbound revolves around several races who wish to flee their home-world using a spacecraft and hoping to find a new replacement somewhere in the endless corners of space. Starbound allows the players to play as any of those races that are six in total and with another one coming when the game is fully released. The game also has character classes, although they are not chosen in the typical way; the player’s class is determined by the type of items they are wearing. Aside from the free-roaming element that comes with a sandbox game, player’s can also take up missions and side-quests to progress through the game. Starbound is another example of a video game that does not need to be a heavyweight in graphics in order to get players addicted; compare gamekeys for both the Early Access beta version and the full release version of Starbound, only here at Game-Key-Fox!
